The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) elections kicked off in Laikipia on Thursday in earnest, as they seek to get a new president to succeed Alex Theuri after the expiry of his tenure.The exercise which started early Thursday morning and is set to end at 5 pm is being conducted in all the law courts across the country.The vote casting which is being carried out by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will also see LSK male representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) elected and council members.Nanyuki Law Court polling station Presiding officer Kahura Karua told media that the exercise began seamlessly with about 25 per cent voters casting their votes by 11 Am.'In this polling station, there are 71 registered voters and we have about 18 members who have cast their vote. The election consists of eight ballot boxes for the eight representatives being elected,' said Karua.He revealed that in Nanyuki law court that there were about 71 registered voters and more than 15,700 ac ross the country.Meanwhile, the LSK presidency is a non-renewable two-year- term and is critical in promoting the affairs of the society.Those who are contesting for the LSK presidency include Harriet Mboche, Kipkoech Ngetich, Faith Odhiambo, Caroline Kamande, and Peter Wanyama. The winner among the five candidates will become the 51st president to assume the LSK presidency seat.Source: Kenya News Agency
