Elgeyo Marakwet deputy governor Grace Cheserek has advised residents to avoid paying cash for any services offered by the county government and instead pay through the approved digital payment systems. The deputy governor who was speaking when she received a team from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), called on residents not to pay any bribe for any service offered saying officers were supposed to offer services as they were paid to do exactly that. Prof Cheserek said according to EACC, corruption in the county was likely to occur in the health and revenue collection sectors saying the county will take the necessary actions to ensure that they seal any loophole that results in loss of money for the county. The DG said that as a county they support the partnership with EACC in corruption prevention saying this will ensure that there is effective service delivery and that the county gets value for money. She said that with advice from the EACC, the county would form a corruption prevention committee which will be chaired by the governor while all the county executive committee members will be members. ‘The committee will come up with guidelines and make follow ups in any corruption cases and report them to the EACC for further investigations,’ she said. She hailed EACC for training 143 officers from the county to become corruption prevention champions saying this has gone a long way in boosting the fight against corruption in the county. A commissioner from EACC Dr Cecilia Mutuku said they had visited the county to launch the corruption prevention operation manual which will ensure that the fight against corruption is standardized both at the national and county level.
