Residents of Vihiga County have been advised to form, register and join SACCOs to empower themselves economically.Speaking during the launch of Smart Mums SACCO at a Gambogi hotel, Vihiga County Commissioner for Cooperatives, Francis Kisia commended women members of Jesus Celebration Centre church for coming up with the idea of registering a SACCO.Kisia said the SACCO will enable members to save, borrow loans and even get dividends which will empower them economically and thus improve their living standards. He urged members to own the Sacco and support in recruiting more members reminding them that their strength was in the number of members who will join the Sacco. On his part, Bishop Mark Kegohi of Jesus Celebration Centre Kisumu who came up with the idea of Sacco forming called on members to separate church and SACCO issues for the Sacco to flourish.'Do not mix friendship and church issues with SACCO Issues as this will interfere with the growth and the smooth running of the SACCO,' warned Bishop Mark.He added that when issuing loans to members, due process and diligence should be observed and friendship swept aside for the Sacco to thrive.Source: Kenya News Agency
