The 1,050 housing units from the Ruiru Affordable Housing Project is at 40 percent completion, Developer says.
The Government through the State Department for Housing and Urban Development in partnership with M/S Kings Developers Limited embarked on the development of Ruiru Boma Estate after the official ground breaking by President Ruto.
The project construction that has been ongoing for the last one year expected to be ready by August 31, 2025.
Speaking during a site visit by the Kiambu County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-CIMCC), Kiambu County Director housing Charles Kiarie said that 20 percent of the houses 210 units have been set aside for civil servants once complete.
‘I want to urge civil servants to take advantage of the affordable housing and apply to get the houses,’ he said adding that 80 percent of the houses are also open to the public for purchase,’ Kiarie said.
He noted through the civil service housing scheme once an employee applies, they are allowed to get
a mortgage at 5 percent per annum so that they do not strain in getting finances to buy the houses.
The government has facilitated the provision of financing for the purchase of affordable housing through the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) and its partner local commercial banks and SACCOs.
The Director explained that the site of the houses stands on six acres of land that was mapped out in 2011 for affordable civil servants housing scheme which then had 44 units that were demolished to pave way for the construction of the affordable houses.
Kuria Ndungu, site manager from Kings company developers of the project said the houses will encompass bedsitters which will go for Sh1.25million, One (1) bedroom apartments will go for Sh1.5 million, Two bedroom small will be Sh2 million, 2 bedroomed standard with go for Sh3.75million, Two bedroomed master ensuite Sh4.25 million and Three bedrooms will be Sh4.7 million.

rtments, 504 two-bedroom (without master ensuite), 336 two-bedroom (master ensuite) apartments, and 80 three-bedroom (with balcony) apartments,’ he said.
Ndungu also confirmed that all the three bedrooms that were set for commercial sale to the public are all sold out.
Apart from the houses which go up to seven floors, the ground floor has a parking area, two boreholes, there will be a clinic and also a kindergarten, kids playing area as well as a commercial area for shops,’ he added.
Ndungu confirmed that since the project started, they have been getting over 1500 workers daily thus creating jobs for the young people.
The Ruiru project is expected to alleviate the housing deficit. Last week on Thursday, President Ruto made an impromptu visit at the Kings Boma Estate affordable house to see the progress of the Sh.2.8 billion project.
The government targets to put up some 50,000 units in Kiambu county and over 200,000 units across the country every year.
