YAOUNDE: Senator Mbella Moki Charles, representing the ruling party in Fako, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the condition of roads in Cameroon's South West Region. Speaking at a plenary session focused on the 2025 state budget, the senator highlighted the lack of progress on critical infrastructure projects.According to Cameroon News Agency, Senator Mbella Moki described the delay in commencement of work on the road connecting Bikoko, Douala to West Coast Idenau as a "mafia," suggesting that bureaucratic inefficiencies have hindered development. He recalled past projects that have been stalled since their inception despite significant time passing.The senator emphasized the importance of road development to the residents of the South West Region, stating that infrastructure is a primary concern. He challenged the Public Works Minister on the execution of road projects, questioning whether officials responsible for the country's road network are aware of its current state.He cited examples of deteri orating road conditions, including the critical route between Douala and Yaounde, as well as roads linking Ekondo Titi, Ndian, and Buea to other parts of the country. The senator referenced concerns previously raised by the Minister Delegate for National Security following a visit to the Mutengene Police College.Senator Mbella Moki questioned the Minister of Public Works on the personal impact of bad roads, urging for immediate action to prevent further loss of life. He pointed out the disparity between the realities on the ground and the portrayal in state media, asserting that the people of the South West Region are not deceived by official narratives.In his closing remarks, the senator attributed the high rate of separatist activities in the region to underdevelopment, particularly the inadequate road infrastructure. He concluded his speech after five minutes, urging more decisive action from the government.
