The Ministry of Health has finalized regulations to operationalize the Social Health Insurance Fund, Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has said.Nakhumicha said the regulations were before the Attorney General's office and were set to be gazetted this Friday.This, he said will set in motion the process of effecting the 2.75% deductions starting this month as the government moves to roll out the social health insurance program.Speaking in Kisumu, the CS said despite the deduction beginning soon, Kenyans will start benefitting from the new scheme from 1st July 2024.The three months window, she added will allow the ministry to put in place the necessary instruments to actualize the scheme.'Our projection is that we need three months to prepare ourselves. We need a digital system to do the registration and test it ahead of the official rollout on 1st July,' he said.The registration, she added is expected to kick off immediately after the gazettement on Friday.The CS assured members of the public tha t the funds under the new scheme will be properly utilized to ensure all Kenyans have access to quality medical care.Source: Kenya News Agency
