Two people escaped death by a whisker after the vehicle they were traveling in was swept by flash floods near Esupetai area along the Ewaso Nyiro- Sekenani highway.Narok South Deputy County Commissioner Felix Kisalu who confirmed the incident said the two, who were the only occupants of the vehicle at the time of the incident, were luckily rescued by members of the public but the vehicle was yet to be towed from the flooded river.Kisalu said movement of vehicles has been temporarily restricted in the area until the water levels reduce.The Deputy County Commissioner called on residents to be careful during this rainy season when crossing or driving along flooded roads as they could easily drown.Kisalu recalled that 11 people from the sub county have lost their lives as a result of flooding or mudslides while over 2, 000 families were displaced by floods.At the same time, thousands of livestock and hundreds of acres under crop plantation have so far been swept away by flash floods during this rainy se ason.'We do not want these statistics to continue going up. We want everybody to be vigilant to avoid being swept by the floods,' he said, noting that most of the floods victims in the area were women and children.The flooded road is a major passage for tourists who access the Maasai Mara Game Reserve through the Sekenani gate, thus the need for tourists' vans and tour guides to advise their visitors accordingly.According to the rainfall forecast for Narok County, the Trans Mara region, Narok West, Narok North and part of Narok South sub counties will continue receiving rainfall above average this week.Source: Kenya News Agency
