A somber mood engulfed the residents of Silibwet village in Nessuit, Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru County after they woke up to devastating news of the loss of two siblings who were swept away by the raging floods at Ndarugu river.Area chief, Douglas Mutai confirmed the incident saying that search and rescue operations have commenced using local divers to help retrieve the bodies of the two sisters aged 15 and 17 years.The duo who were in the company of a friend were crossing the river this morning but unfortunately they slid and fell into the river following the heavy rain and only their friend managed to escape death by a whisker by swimming through.The deceased minors who have been identified as Sharon Chepngetitch and Faith Cheptoo who were pupils at Tegitech primary school in grade seven and six respectively.Mutai urged the local residents to keep off flooded rivers and exercise extra caution as heavy rains continue to pound in different parts of the country.As schools are set to resume learning nex t week, Mutai further advised parents to make arrangements and always attend to their children whenever there are reports of flooding areas in a bid to help them get proper guidance and have them home safely.Source: Kenya News Agency
