DSCHANG: Two students from GTHS Dschang drowned in the Dschang municipal lake in the Menoua Division of the West Region after swimming in the lake following the FENASCO school games on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety in the area.According to Cameroon News Agency, the students, identified as Kamta Forlan, a mechanical engineering student, and his classmate, whose identity remains undisclosed, intended to relax at the lake. However, their visit ended tragically when they became trapped in a deep section of the lake. Locals recounted that one student got into difficulty, and the other attempted a rescue, leading to both becoming ensnared in the perilous waters.The Dschang municipal police responded to the incident by sending a diver, who recovered the bodies of the two students. The lake is noted for similar incidents in the past, raising concerns about safety measures and awareness for those visiting the area.
