Kakamega residents are upbeat about the ongoing upgrade of the Mumias-Matawa-Indangalasia road to bitumen standard done by the County Government. They say the move will serve as a crucial link connecting three sub-counties of Mumias West, Matungu, and Ugenya thereby bridging Kakamega and Siaya Counties.'The upgrade of the road to bitumen standard is a good plan by the County Government. It will improve regional transportation and trade,' said Brightone Oluoch, a local trader. The 10 km road project will be completed next year according to the area governor Fernandes Barasa. The governor made the sentiments when he toured some of the projects he had launched in the region to check on their progress.'The project will catalyze economic growth in the region in line with my pillar of wealth creation and infrastructure development,' he said.He also said the road will play a vital role in connecting the Matawa Organic Fertilizer manufacturing plant launched last year with nearby towns. In addition, the gov ernor said the project will facilitate the smooth transportation of raw materials, finished products and labor to and from the facility. The road project was launched three months ago and it is progressing well and with speed according to the locals we interviewed.Source: Kenya News Agency
