Nairobi: Farmers benefiting from the Buhani irrigation project in Mungoma Ward, Vihiga Sub-County, have undergone intensive training on Climate-Smart Agriculture technologies, aimed at boosting food security and resilience against climate change. The training, conducted under the Directorate of Climate Change, equipped farmers with practical skills in soil and water management, as well as efficient irrigation methods.
According to Kenya News Agency, participants received hands-on experience in installing, operating, and maintaining small-scale irrigation systems such as drip and sprinkler technologies. The farmers were also equipped with techniques on efficient water use to maximize yields, while reducing wastage. Additionally, demonstration farms were established to serve as continuous learning centers for the community, hence ensuring long-term knowledge transfer and adoption of modern practices.
The initiative is part of the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Program, designed by the national government to strengthen resilience in the agricultural sector and promote sustainable livelihoods across the counties.
