Vihiga County Commissioner (CC), Felix Watakila, has reminded parents and guardians, to ensure learners transit to the next classes.
Mr. Watakila stated that all the learners who sat for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), proceed to grade six and form one respectively in line with the government policy of 100 percent transition.
The CC, who addressed a public forum in the Luanda Sub-county, directed the Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs, to effectively implement the government policies in their areas of jurisdiction.
The Administrator decried the incidence of child labor that is manifest in urban centers in the form of school-age children hawking foodstuff and other wares in the streets of Luanda, Majengo, Mbale, and Chavakali townships.
He said the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), in collaboration with the police are going to mount an operation to round-up the child hawkers, place them into police cells, and process
the charges against the parents.
‘We are also concerned about the rampant incidents of sexual abuse perpetrated against teenage girls in the County and we are employing a multisectoral approach to ensure the culprits are brought to book,’ he said.
He decried the high number of defilement cases reported to the local administrators and at the police stations and appealed to the residents to uphold the societal moral code of conduct for the common good.
