Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi has launched a five-year County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP 2023-2027) worth Sh159 billion. Speaking when he presided over the event held outside his Kabarnet office on Wednesday, Cheboi said the third-generation county master plan is a people’s centred roadmap which mainly targets to increase productivity and improve service delivery in all sectors of the economy. The Baringo boss flanked by his Deputy Eng. Felix Kimaiyo, County Speaker Vincent Kemboi amongst other leaders noted that the plan under a rallying theme of ‘Delivering as One to transform the lives of the people of Baringo to the highest standard of living,’ intends to support communities to triumph over the shackles of poverty and rebound from the effects of climate change. ‘With this integrated plan we are able to put together all our plans into one and strategise on how to improve on the wellbeing of our people,’ Governor Cheboi said. He said that all aspirations especially from key departments like agriculture, health and water were captured after extensive engagement with residents and professionals who gave their inputs which constituted the development plan. Cheboi, who pointed out that the plan will play a crucial role in generating income for households, called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders including leaders in both levels of government, Non- governmental Organisations and private sector players to make it a success. The deputy governor reiterated the sentiments of Cheboi by urging stakeholders to play their role in delivering the county development plan adding that it is from their unity that the vast county will achieve greater heights of development. Eng Kimaiyo, however, pointed out that the county resource envelope of Sh 115 billion will not be enough to fully implement the CIDP therefore urged residents to be patient as the governor mobilised more resources from development partners to breach the Sh 44 billion gap. The speaker expressed optimism that the CIDP will succeed since it is popular amongst the entire leadership. He noted that the development plan will bring synergy amongst all government agencies as well as development partners and define clear roles of what is supposed to be done within the entire five years and in turn limit duplication of services.
