Ouagadougou: The 23rd Mobile Gendarmerie Squadron was officially inaugurated this Saturday, September 13, 2025, in HoundE, Guiriko region, in the presence of the Minister of Security, Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana. The infrastructure is the result of a partnership between the Burkinabe government and the company Endeavour Mining.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the barracks were built on an area of two hectares and include dormitories, a sports area, an infirmary, an operations room, offices, a shooting range, and a drilling rig. The project, estimated to cost 1.49 billion FCFA, was financed by Endeavour Mining. The company’s country director, Souleymane Boly, emphasized that this project symbolizes a partnership, trust, and commitment between the Burkinabe government and Endeavour Mining.
Boly highlighted the importance of the defense and security forces (FDS) in maintaining a stable environment, crucial for Endeavour Mining’s operations in Burkina Faso. He expressed gratitude to the FDS and reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting them in their missions.
Colonel LEonid RakiswendE Diabri, commander of the 2nd Gendarmerie Legion of Bobo-Dioulasso, expressed appreciation for the new facility, describing it as a ‘much-awaited gem.’ He acknowledged Endeavour Mining and its subsidiary HoundE Gold Operation (HGO) for their efforts and assured that the infrastructure will be maintained to provide security essential for regional development.
Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana also expressed satisfaction with the partnership, describing it as an exemplary collaboration between the government and the private sector to address security challenges. He noted that the new facilities would enhance the gendarmes’ living and working conditions, improving their operational efficiency.
Sana emphasized the barracks’ potential contribution to the stability of HoundE and security in Tuy province. He urged the gendarmes to serve the population diligently and encouraged residents to cooperate with the FDS for sustainable security. He stressed the importance of mutual trust, dialogue, and collaboration in building a peaceful and resilient community.
The ceremony included the handover of equipment to the squadron, such as computer tools, a boxing kit, twenty motorcycles, two surveillance drones, and three Land Cruiser vehicles. It concluded with a tour of the facilities and a tree planting ceremony within the barracks.
