The construction work of Juja Level IV Hospital in Kiambu County is almost complete.
When complete, the facility is expected to ease the healthcare burden being experienced on Thika and Gatundu level V hospitals.
The project that was inaugurated by Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi early this year with a budget of Sh210 million has already seen the roof completed along with the installation of steel casement windows and internal frames.
The hospital is supposed to feature a comprehensive range of services, including outpatient and inpatient facilities, a radiology department, administration block, a maternity wing, and two surgical theatres.
The Governor says that the facility will reshape healthcare in Juja Sub-County and address the existing healthcare gap.
‘The team is working hard to ensure that this facility is ready to serve our community with the highest standards of care. The construction is underway with ongoing external and internal plastering, electrical work, mechanical pointing, and installat
ion of channels for acoustic ceilings,’ he said.
He noted that specialized wards including paediatrics, female and male would contribute to the hospital’s holistic healthcare approach.
According to Juja residents, it has been a tiresome journey to seek healthcare services elsewhere, far from Jua and they cannot wait for the services to be brought to their doorstep.
‘Concurrently, the construction of Kahawa Sukari Level 3 Hospital in Kahawa Sukari Ward, Ruiru Sub-County, is also progressing well, with the superstructure now complete,’ Governor Wamatangi confirmed.
Roofing work is actively underway, and the installation of steel doors and windows is in progress, contributing to the overall advancement of the facilitywhich will have a 15-bed maternity wing, a 10-bed general ward for inpatients, a 6-bed paediatric ward, a theatre, and a laboratory.
According to CECM Health Services Kiambu County Dr. Elias Maina, the overall health sector in Kiambu County has received a boost after the Department of Health Se
rvices procured essential pharmaceuticals worth Sh15 million for Level 2 and Level 3 hospitals across the county.
‘This investment aligns with Governor Wamatangi`s commitment to ensuring healthcare facilities maintain an optimal supply level of at least 85 percent,’ Dr Maina said
The Kiambu County government launched a Sh1.5 billion initiative to improve health infrastructure through building new hospitals, expanding and renovating as well as equipping existing facilities.
This is to complement the multi-million Kiambu Afya programme popularly known as Wamatangi Care.
