Tokyo: Burkinabe athlete Marthe Yasmine Koala finished 10th in the long jump final at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, according to the Ministry of Sports. Marthe Koala was unable to reach the podium in the ranking of her event held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the National Stadium in Tokyo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, “in a final that began with a first jump of 6.49 m, Marthe Yasmine Koala fought with courage and dedication to improve her performance without, however, succeeding.” The competition was dominated by American Tara De is-Woodhall, who won the gold medal with a jump of 7.13 m. German Malaka Mihamboli was runner-up with a jump of 6.99 m, while Mexican Nathalie Linares took bronze with a jump of 6.92 m.
“At the head of the Burkinabe delegation to Tokyo to support our athletes, Minister Roland Somda congratulated Marthe Yasmine Koala for her performance at these World Athletics Championships, which allowed Burkina Faso to rise among the best long jump nations in the world. He conveyed to her the encouragement of the highest authorities and the Burkinabe people for her commitment to defending the homeland at these World Championships in Tokyo and invited her to continue her work with courage and selflessness for the upcoming competitions.
The Minister of Sports also called for the mobilization of all Burkinabe people to bring positive energy to Hugues Fabrice Zango, who will compete on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, for the men’s triple jump qualifications before the final scheduled for Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Tokyo National Stadium. According to Minister Somda, Burkina Faso has its say and he is very hopeful of seeing the ditanye resound in these Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships.
